When Economies Collapse

I have always been curious about what happened to Argentina and its middle class a few years ago.
Haiti has been undergoing issues for the past 19 years (more like 201 years). Our small middle class, which I am a member of, is eroding as fast as our fertile soil into the sea.
I am left to think that if my parents are complaining and that some of our friends' net worth is way down south, what about the poor? Does it make it even harder for them or are they just used to suffer?
In the early 80s, I US dollar was officially 5 Haitian Gourdes. These days (without taking into account inflation), 1 US dollar hovers around 37.5 Haitian Gourdes....
